Holding a degree in Geology and Physical Geography, Dan spent time in Ireland garnering valuable geotechnical field experience before returning to Cornwall where he joined Cornwall Consultants Ltd as a Geologist in 1997. Today Dan is the MD, continuing to assist with mining subsidence claims and the supervising the identification and remediation of old mine workings as well as the commercial development of the business.

On successfully graduating from Camborne School of Mines, Chris spent time working as a miner and mine geologist at South Crofty before becoming the aggregates production manager at Goonvean china clay quarry near St. Austell. He then joined the Cornwall Mining Consultants team in 2007. Chris’ time at South Crofty has provided him with a unique insight into Cornish geology and the issues of old mine workings lying beneath urban areas. Chris is also adept at sampling mundic block, compiling mining searches and supervising mining investigations, serving as our technical lead on all mining subsidence aspects. He specialises in assessment of imminent and recent shaft collapses and consults on remedial projects to make historic mine workings safe.

Peter Anderson

Senior Mundic Surveyor & Mundic Department ManagerFRICS

A fellow of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS), Peter manages our mundic block assessment department. Prior to this, Peter worked as a branch manager and Senior Chartered Surveyor, undertaking a range of valuation and structural surveys for building societies and private clients. Peter has been practising professionally in Cornwall for over 30 years and is an expert in the localised use of mundic. Well-versed in the RICS mundic guidelines, he is responsible for designing, supervising and reporting on concrete sampling and test-work programmes.

Adam Weatherall

On successfully graduating from Camborne School of Mines, Adam spent time working as a field geologist and GIS technician for a mineral exploration company. Adam holds years of experience designing, implementing and analysing geochemical soil sampling programmes and advising on land development issues, including mineral rights, and supervises site investigations for geotechnical, contaminated land and ground instability assessments. Adam has been integral in streamlining and expanding our mining archive GIS and is responsible for the integration of historical maps and plans as well as diverse modern datasets.

Mark Moyle

Before joining Cornwall Mining Consultants in 1999, Mark had spent much of his professional life working in various construction and engineering related roles. Since then he has worked closely with RICS surveyors and has spent well over a decade as our mundic drilling operative. Following in-house training he now researches, compiles and interprets mining records and is a core member of our Mining Search department, taking a systematic and coordinated approach to data management and interpretation. In addition, he also carries specialist test work on concrete cores.

Prior to joining Cornwall Mining Consultants, Jackie spent time working as a Higher Level Teaching Assistant before taking up the role of personal assistant for the senior management team at a local primary school. Her range of transferrable skills see her expertly co-ordinate enquiries from the public alongside existing clients whilst seamlessly organising and recording the working schedule for our Mundic team. And if that wasn’t enough, Jackie also assists with quality control and issuing our search reports.

Tom Gibson

Dr Thomas Gibson

Having graduated from the University of Plymouth with an integrated master’s degree in Geology (MGeol), Tom spent 5 years completing his Geology PhD at Camborne School of Mines. Alongside his studies there, he worked as an independent geoenvironmental consultant before taking on a role with a local company, using his expertise to support a mix of mining, geotechnical and environmental projects. 

As our Contaminated Land department lead, Tom competently delivers the full range of phased contamination reports alongside other bespoke services and consultancy. His passion for mining sees him readily assisting the team with foundation trench inspections, site walkover surveys and site investigations as often as he can. Outside of work, Tom spends his free time soaking up the fresh Cornish air, hiking or camping with his family.

Dylan grew up in Cornwall and this sparked his interest in the county’s fascinating mining heritage. Eager to learn more, he successfully completed a BSc with the University of Exeter, at Camborne School of Mines before achieving an internship with the innovative eco-technology company, Cornish Lithium. Dylan went on to work with another local company undertaking site work and compiling mining searches before jumping at the opportunity to work with Cornwall Mining Consultants. Dylan is the point of contact for all desk top mining subsidence services and leads the mining search team.

Raised in Cornwall, Stella went on to successfully complete her Physical Geography and Geology BSc Hons degree from the University of South Wales. Her final research project focused on historical earthquake events in Italy, determining future risks, identifying hazards and learning how to mitigate them – all incredibly crucial to her role here in our research team. Having spent her early career working for engineering consultants across the southwest, Stella is happy to be settled back in Cornwall, delighted to have found a geology role that suits her skillsets and interests. When not poring over maps and data, Stella can be found gig rowing off the beautiful Cornish coast.

A geology graduate from the University of Birmingham, with a masters in Geotechnical Engineering, Jack has a passion for fieldwork and mapping. After working on site for a scaffolding firm, he then joined a Geoscience company as a graduate Geotechnical Engineer where he built on his experience in earthworks, ground investigations and reporting. Having spent time building his experience out of county, he returned to Cornwall where he joined us as our Field Geologist. Raul holds a master’s degree in Volcanology from the University of Bristol and spent time working as a researcher and GIS demonstrator at Keele University where he was involved with the implementation and analysis of drone-borne terrain surveys and has since published on the use of aerial imagery to characterise drainage systems. As part of the Cornwall Mining Consultants team, Raul takes responsibility for enhancing our GIS and designing innovative processes which allow us to digitalise, analyse and model our extensive historic mining data. In addition, Raul creates complex codes which enable the streamlining of our research and automation of certain aspects of our reports.

An independent Mining Geologist and Geo-environmental Specialist Kathy works regularly with us at Cornwall Mining Consultants. Having trained as a field geotechnical engineer from Camborne School of Mines, Kathy initially joined our team in 2003 where she spent four years preparing project tenders and supervising the investigation of abandoned mine workings by means of drilling. She has since worked on international mining and geo-environmental projects, returning to work with us as an independent consultant, providing a broad perspective and playing valuable role in the technical development of the business.

A Chartered Mining Engineer, Tony became the Senior Engineer for the Hot Dry Rocks Geothermal Energy project near Falmouth, an innovative scheme which explored the possibility of generating energy from water circulated through fractured granite. Joining Cornwall Consultants in 1993, he oversaw the interpretation and production of Mining Searches and now works for us part-time, applying his impressive 30+ years of experience to all the services we offer. Tony also holds the role of Operations Director for EGS Energy Limited who are running the proposed deep geothermal power plant at the iconic Eden Project. An expert at extrapolating historic maps and plans, Tony is also responsible for compiling our bespoke and extensive catalogue of mining data.
