Whilst breathtakingly beautiful, the Cornish landscape is strewn with numerous mining hazards and abandoned mine shafts – such is the legacy of having once been the world capital of mining. However, our abandoned mine inspections help in mapping out these hazards beneath the ground by conducting remote surveys and risk assessments for mine entrances and openings.

Understandably, these historic sites can cause a variety of issues and Cornwall Mining Consultants are often called upon to provide condition surveys and risk assessments for mine entrances, openings and exposed voids – where it is safe and appropriate to do so.
There are occasions where mine entrances are precariously located along the coast and in these instances we can combine health and safety risk assessments with a geotechnical appraisal of the cliff face. Should access not be achievable, we are able to coordinate the remote surveying of voided mine workings using customised equipment. This can be especially useful when assessing the nature of any overlying support, particularly where a working lies directly underneath a dwelling.
This type of inspection is always fascinating and we have been privileged enough to work with some fantastic clients over the years including the National Trust, Cornwall Council, Pell Frischmanncor Consulting Engineers, SUEZ Cornwall and Perranzabuloe Parish Council.
