Cornwall Mining Consultants were approached by a prospective purchaser following a Dye Durham Ground Risks Report which had concluded that their property was situated in an area they considered to be susceptible to slope instability. Their report also explained that there was evidence of slope movement within the area as identified by the British Geological Survey mapping data. The recommendation had been for the prospective purchaser to commission a slope stability assessment from a reputable geotechnical engineer who would be able to further assess the potential risk of future slope instability at the location as well as whether any preventative works would be required prior to purchase.

In this instance, we were requested to undertake a SlopeSure Walkover Report to confirm slope stabilisation within the area. This report comprised of a comprehensive desk study which assessed the nature and state of the site. It considers geology, hydrology, hydrogeology and recorded slope instability as well as historic OS datasets. The second part of the assessment required a visual walkover inspection of the site and the adjoining areas where these were accessible.
Although the British Geological Survey data presented in the intial Dye Durham Report indicated the property was susceptible to slope instability, our thorough, detailed research has confirmed that landslides have only occurred in the much wider area. Our in-depth review of recorded geology, local extraction and historical land-use revealed no significant potential caused of slope failure or ground instability within the property boundaries. Added to this, we observed no visual issues in the property or the immediate vicinity.
The result? A positive conculsion for our client. We concluded that the risk to the property from slope instability was low and their conveyance could proceed unhindered. This is a good result for our client and another successful project added to our growing portfolio.
