A Preliminary Site Visit for a Mining Investigation in Bristol

Client: Developer
Date: November 2025
Location: Bristol

Subsequent to a CON 29 Coal Mining Search which flagged the existence of recorded historic coal mining activity, a vendor in Bristol needed to take further investigation measures on the subject site.

The site was proposed for development and the investigation works were recommended in the conclusions of the Coal Mining Search report.

We were asked to advise on these next steps and our Principal Mining Geologist, Chris Rogers, headed to Bristol to undertake a more detailed preliminary Site Visit.

The purpose of these initial site visits is to scope the details of the proposed investigation. This includes noting all services, access to the site, the topography of the land and a potential time scale for any required work.

The site in question had been in a state of limbo for several years with the client and potential developers unsure how to proceed.

Following his preliminary site visit, Chris was able to produce a full detailed scope and proposal for a Mining Investigation which was sent directly to the clients for their consideration.

The Mining Site Investigation works were subsequently agreed to commence with Chris starting to work on securing the permit from the Mining Remediation Authority which is required prior to any works proceeding.
