Assessment of Historic Mine Shaft Caps

Client: Perranporth Parish Council
Date: March 2022
Location: Perranporth

Following reports of unsafe mine shafts, due to the degradation of metal cones emplaced in the early 1980’s, Cornwall Mining Consultants were called upon to undertake an assessment to determine whether they were in fact a hazard. To do this, we firstly undertook some desktop research using our extensive mining archive. This enabled us to locate each of the shafts before one of our experienced Mining Geologists completed a safe visual assessment.

Thanks to our unrivalled local knowledge and considerable experties, we were able to provided a detailed appraisal of the current condition of several shafts whilst also locating two others that presented a risk to the public. Identifying these allowed them to be logged, capped and made safe under our guidance – a good outcome all round!
