Cornwall Mining Consultants were contacted to carry out a Metalliferous Mining Search of a property for purchase in Shipham, Somerset. Although not an area necessarily synonymous with mining, Shipham has extensive early mine workings for both lead and zinc. Undertaking thorough research of our extensive mining archive, which includes maps, plans, books, digital datasets and satellite imagery, we were able to appraise the likelihood of mine workings existing in the Shipham property.
Our Somerset mining search report discovered evidence for shallow mine workings along with several previous subsidence events both within and close to the property. These findings ensured that the prospective purchaser was forewarned of this significant issue, we then remained on hand to provide expert advice and support as to how best resolve the threat. The situation was rectified and the Shipham property sale was able to proceed.
