Cornwall Mining Consultants were tasked with undertaking a Metalliferous Mining Search of a property for purchase by the solicitor managing the sale. Not an area usually associated with mining, it surprises many to discover that evidence suggests very early small-scale mining took place in parts of Barnstable and has left a legacy today. Due to this historic activity, we carried out comprehensive and detailed desktop research using our mining archive; this was then interpreted by one of our mining experts who was able to piece together the available evidence and provide a detailed mining report.
Our mining search report highlighted only a moderate risk of early workings being present and we advised that a simple further assessment be carried out by a surveyor in order to provide the necessary assurances and allow the transaction to get back on track. This was a success story and the sale was able to continue.
